Event synopsis

Policy in Practice has concluded the third round of findings for our Low-Income Londoners and Welfare Reform project. Our work brings significant clarity to the complex dynamics shaping the circumstances around poverty, employment, housing and welfare support for households on low incomes in London.

We have collected 25 months of housing benefit and council tax support data on over 550,000 households from across 18 London boroughs. This has enabled us to provide a unique assessment of how the living standards of low-income Londoners have changed over the last two years.

Phase 3 of the project asked:

  • What are the drivers and risk factors of financial resilience for households on low incomes?
  • What choices will self employed people have under Universal Credit?
  • How has the Benefit Cap affected employment outcomes?
  • What's predicted to happen to low income households by 2020?

Join us to hear the findings.

We have secured funding to extend the project for another eighteen months, thanks to the support of Trust for London. The systematic use of administrative data is the future of social policy analysis and we’ve only scratched the surface of what we believe is possible.

Join us to shape the next phase.

Organised by

We believe the welfare system can work more effectively.

It can help people towards greater independence if we make it simple for people and organisations to understand.

We simplify the welfare system by showing people how policy affects them.

We show local authorities how individual households are affected by all policy changes, now and in the future.

We talk to government on a national level to influence policy.
